I am working as an assistant professor at the Design Systems group at the Eindhoven University of Technology since 2008. I started as a PhD student at the TU/e in summer 2003 after I received my "Diplom-Ingenieur" degree from the Department of Architecture at the Bauhaus-University Weimar / Germany. In my master thesis - supervised by Dirk Donath of the InfAR group - I investigated "A Parametric Approach to Sketch Recognition in the Early Stages of Architectural Design". I finished my PhD thesis titled "Facilitating distributed collaboration in the AEC/FM sector using Semantic Web Technologies" (pfd, 1,6 MB) in 2009. Bauke de Vries and Jos van Leeuwen have been my (co-) supervisors for this project.

My research interests are:
  • Building Information Modeling (BIM)
  • Interoperability
  • Semantic Web, Artificial Intelligence
  • Parametric and generative design
These interests also overlap with my teaching activities, which make up half of my position at TU/e
I am involved in several external research and development initiatives, and enjoy knowledge valorization in the form of consultancy in the building and construction industry.
